On August 4, 2007, seven Texas Music Legends gathered at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas Texas for what would become a once in a lifetime concert, reminiscent of the shows of the early ‘70s. Bob Livingston hosted the evening and gave us insights to each of the artists’ beginnings. The show started off with Michael Hearne and South by Southwest backing Bill and Bonnie Hearne. This was the first performance with Bill and Bonnie together in quite a long time. Segle Fry made an appearance on banjo during the hit “Georgetown”. Next to perform was Gary P. Nunn. Gary P’s music has shaped Texas Music as we know it today. He is a true Texas Legend. The also legendary Herb Steiner sat in on Pedal Steel guitar. Rusty Wier was next to perform. He admits that this was perhaps the finest show he has ever put on. Todd Potter and John Fannin were added for an amazing triple guitar sound. Michael Martin Murphey ended the show but not before reincarnating the spirit of what we call “Texas Music”. The unique thing about the night’s show was that all of the headliners have played with Murph at one time or another before heading out to start their own solo careers. If you appreciate today’s Texas Music scene, you owe a big “Thanks” to Murph and all the others for being pioneers, of a genre that is still going strong today.
